Sekhet Hemat

The Wadi Natrun is a natural oasis close to the Delta, northwest of Cairo and south of Alexandria.

The many salt lakes there were an excellent source of natron used for cleaning and ritual purposes including mummification, and the manufacture of faience and glass.
